Screen

Last night I went over to my friends’ house for some merch printing adventures. My friends are Elise and Wilder and they’re both pretty groovy people. When I went over there I had a few designs that I was thinking of printing, but it didn’t necessarily go as planned. Elise has a Gocco screen printer, which is a really cool little screen printer, and it’s really easy to make screens with it. It works with anything printed from a photocopier. It has something to do with the carbon on the paper. The only problem with the one she has is that the screen is a little bigger than 6″ by 4″, so we cut one of my designs in half to make it fit on the screens. The idea was that we would line them up and print them really quickly, one half at a time. It didn’t really work that well when we tried to match them up, and this is the best print that we got:

Round one: best test

It’s not bad! It isn’t perfect, but it was really hard to do and there were a bunch of other attempts that didn’t come out as well as this one. I can’t imagine trying to get it perfect on every single shirt. It would be so hard. Although, Elise said that somebody told her that there is a way that you can do it and get it perfect every time.

So, we saved the screens and we’re doing our homework to try and figure out how we can make this work. An idea that we had was to do a bunch of smaller prints of the double peace sign, that way every shirt would be one of a kind. That’s cool, right? Another idea is to find techniques on the internet that will allow us to make perfect double prints. Also cool, right?

I’m still working on shows at big places. I have a couple of parties lined up, and I was forced into buying Serato Scratch Live because my CD turntables never got fixed. In order to get them fixed it would take another 3 weeks and a few hundred dollars, so I took the money that I was going to use to repair them and bought Serato. I wouldn’t be as mad as I am if it weren’t for some big store’s really lame service. I don’t really know if I should say who it is, but their name rhymes with Sitar Lender, and they sell lots of stringed wooden pear-shaped instruments. If you don’t know who I’m talking about, just take it from me, they aren’t cool. I named a song after them, but it’s not a love song. Ultimately though, I think Serato will help shows go more smoothly and is a good investment, but I had to have my friend Bergman front me money to get it. I’m broke!
